EPIC – Top Fundraising Tips

So you have made the decision to join EPIC for the adventure of a lifetime… fantastic, your adventure is about to begin…

We have put together some fundraising tips to help either schools or individual young people to start their fundraising journey.

  • Be bold and ask the right people for money. Choose people who are as excited about international travel as you or have an interest in India or what you are about to experience and think carefully before you ask for a specific amount is it too much or not enough?

  • Be clear about your target, what the money is going towards and the difference the donation will make.

  • Communicate regularly with the people who have given and be clear about what a difference their donation has made.

  • Thank your donors personally and send them an update after the project, share your experience and your images, make your donor feel part of your journey. Why not write a blog of your trip that donors can read?

Here are just a few EPIC Fundraising Ideas:

  • Get Active… Ask for sponsors to do something challenging - not only will you raise money for your trip you will also get fit.

  • Ask your school if you can hold a ‘non uniform day’ with proceeds going toward your EPIC adventure.

  • Use your green fingers. Buy some seeds, grow them and them sell them to friends and family.

  • Run a ‘talent competition’ in your school, ask entrants to pay a fee that will got toward your EPIC adventure.

  • Organise a ‘chai and mithai’ party (i.e. tea and cake), what better way to fundraise than with a nice cup of traditional Indian tea.

  • Abstain from something you love and get your friends and family to sponsor you for every day you manage without.

  • Be quiet – ask your friends and family to sponsor you for a sponsored silence.

  • Get scrubbing – ask if you can clean the cars of friends and neighbours in return for a donation toward your EPIC adventure.

  • Cook up a treat – ask your school if you can hold a bake sale and sell the proceeds in school to raise money for your trip.

  • Organise a spelling competition in your year group at school, charge an entry fee and spell words that relate to India.

EPIC recommend that you do not approach strangers when fundraising, that you work as a group with other young people and that you always tell a trusted adult where you are and what your fundraising plans are.
